Quick Recap:

Beat mid blitz with three weapons: Halfback Stretch to attack the edges, Max Protect passes with your RB and TE blocking for 3-man routes, and Five Out quick game where everyone runs routes. Mix all three concepts and they can't stop everything — once you break a couple plays, they'll abandon this annoying defense fast.

TL;DR: How To Beat Mid Blitz in College Football 26

Mid blitz getting you frustrated? Here's how to DESTROY it in under 6 minutes.

Three ways to beat mid blitz:

  1. Run Outside Zone — Call Halfback Stretch and attack the edges
  2. Max Protect Pass — Block your RB and TE, run 3 man-beating routes
  3. Five Out Quick Game — Send everyone on routes, throw FAST

The key? Mix all three. They can't stop everything. Once you break a couple plays, they'll get out of this annoying defense real quick.

I'm using the Iowa playbook here, but these concepts work with ANY playbook. This is stuff I've used to win tens of thousands in competitive Madden and College Football — and now I'm teaching it to you.

Why Does Outside Zone Destroy Mid Blitz?

The best way to attack mid blitz? Run the ball. But not just any run — you need the RIGHT runs.

Go to your ConceptsRunsOutside Zone and call Halfback Stretch.

I like using Singleback Doubles Halfback Stretch because it lets me audible to passing formations later (more on that in a minute).

Why Halfback Stretch Works Against Mid Blitz

Look at mid blitz — they're STACKED across the line. When you call Halfback Stretch, you attack the edges where they're weak.

You won't get positive yards every time. It's a blitz-heavy defense — sometimes they shed blocks and you get stuffed.

But if you stay true to the running game, you WILL break one. And that gets them out of this defense.

Pro Tip: Flip Your Runs

Flick the right stick left or right to flip your run direction.

Most mid blitz users sit in the A-gap. Run weak side and watch them struggle to adapt. BANG — big play.

College Football 26 makes it easy to make people miss. You'll get chunk yards without doing much. Anyone watching this can start running stretches RIGHT NOW.

Just remember — call the RIGHT runs against mid blitz. Wrong runs = bad time.

How Do You Block Mid Blitz With Max Protect?

Our second way to beat mid blitz — we're going to pass AND block the blitz.

No fancy blocking schemes here. Just a tried and true method.

Setting Up Max Protect

Block your halfback and tight end:

  • Hot route them individually, OR
  • Press LB/L1 → Up on right stick for Max Protect

Max Protect blocks EVERYBODY.

The Max Protect Mindset

When we Max Protect, we're saying: "We WILL block this blitz."

We only send out 3 routes. But think about it — they're blitzing so many people, playing coverage is a PAIN when you have time in the pocket.

Formation and Route Setup

I audible from running formation to Gun Trips TE Weak (these concepts work from any formation though).

The stock routes are solid, but that outside fade from B against off coverage? Pointless.

Change it to:

  • A Drag, or
  • A Comeback

Now ALL three routes beat man coverage:

  • The drag beats man
  • The in-route beats man
  • The comeback beats man

Even if they user the middle? Cool — hit the comeback on the sideline. They literally can't cover everything.

What Is Five Outing in College Football 26?

Third way to destroy mid blitz — Five Outing.

They're sending everybody at you? Send everybody out on routes. Make a quick read. They don't have the people to defend it.

Gun Trips TE Weak - Double Drags

Go to Gun Trips TE Weak and call Double Drags.

Why Double Drags? Three routes you can throw SUPER quick:

  • Left drag
  • TE drag
  • Halfback wheel

Leave this play STOCK. No adjustments needed.

Reading Double Drags

If the user crashes inside — hit the halfback on the wheel IMMEDIATELY.

If they jump the wheel — BANG — hit either drag over the middle.

Even though they're blitzing more than we're blocking, we get the ball out fast enough. They can't stop it.

Now they're worried about:

  • The run game (from when you were in Singleback)
  • Quick throws like this
  • You blocking the blitz with Max Protect

Why Combining All Three Destroys Mid Blitz

When you mix these three tactics:

  1. Running the ball with Outside Zone
  2. Blocking the blitz with Max Protect
  3. Five Outing for quick throws

They CAN'T stay in mid blitz. They have to get out of it.

You just took one of the most annoying defenses in the game and turned it into something you can easily beat.
