How Do I Win Every Game in College Football 26?
You win by mastering three things: beating blitzes, destroying zone coverage, and having a dominant run game. Most people make this way too complicated.
Against blitzes — run the ball with HB Stretch. Against zone coverage — use high-low concepts. Against man coverage — use speed routes from your halfback.
Here's the exact stuff that works:
How Do I Beat Mid Blitz?
Three ways to destroy Mid Blitz — and they're all simple.
Strategy 1: HB Stretch
- Go to Concepts → Runs → Outside Zone → Halfback Stretch
- I use Singleback Doubles HB Stretch (lets you audible to pass later)
- Flip the run with right stick if they're usering one side
- You'll get stuffed sometimes — that's normal against blitzes
- Stay committed and you'll break one for 20+ yards
Mid Blitz stacks everyone at the line. HB Stretch gets you outside where there's space. Simple.
Strategy 2: Max Protect
- Block your halfback and tight end
- Press LB/L1 and push up on right stick for Max Protect
- Now you have 3 routes vs their coverage
- Best routes against man: drags, comebacks, in routes
Formation: Gun Wolf Trio Weak works great for this.
Strategy 3: Five-Out Quick Game
- Gun Wild Week → Double Drags
- Three instant reads: left drag, TE drag, HB wheel
- If user crashes inside, hit the HB wheel
- Get rid of the ball FAST
How Do I Use High Pass to Avoid Interceptions?
This is the difference between decent players and ELITE players.
Hold Left Bumper (Xbox) or L1 (PlayStation) while throwing. The ball goes at its highest point — your receiver catches it above their head. I pair this with a bullet pass.
When to use it:
- Defender underneath your receiver
- Throwing over the middle in traffic
- Any time a defender is between you and your target
WITHOUT highballing = deflection or pick. WITH highballing = completion or touchdown.

How Do I Beat Every Zone Coverage?
Zone defenders can't cover their entire zone at once. So we make them choose — high or low.
The High-Low Concept
Example: Hook curl defender (yellow zone in the middle)
- Put a curl route at the TOP of his zone
- Put a drag route at the BOTTOM of his zone
- If he goes high → throw low
- If he goes low → throw high
That's it. Zone coverage beaten.
Gun Trips TE Offset Weak - Verticals Setup
- Outside WR on comeback route
- HB already on speed out
- This creates high-low on the flat defender
- Add TE on return route for inside-outside concept
- Add crosser over the middle
Now you have THREE different high-lows across the field. Even the best users can't cover everything.
What's the Best 2-Man Route Combo?
Comeback + Zig. Works against EVERYTHING.
Setup:
- Hot route outside WR (Y/Triangle → select receiver → L2/Left Trigger for comeback)
- Inside receiver on zig route
- That's it
How to Read It:
- FIRST look low at the zig
- If covered, look high at the comeback
- Use high ball on the comeback if defender is underneath
This combo isn't 100% — but it's close. Very high percentage play.
How Do I Destroy Man Coverage?
Use players who CAN'T get pressed: halfbacks and tight ends.
Stock Speed Routes Are KEY
Find these plays with STOCK halfback speed routes:
- Gun Y Off Trips Weak: "Verticals Y Out"
- Bunch Offset: "Corner Strike"
- Trips Tight Offset Weak: "Verticals" (speed out version)
You CANNOT hot route to a speed in. Has to come stock on the play.
The Setup:
- HB speed route going one direction
- TE drag or slant going opposite
- Pass lead AWAY from leverage (outside and down on HB route)
- Alternate between drag and slant based on coverage
For outside WRs who get pressed: use comebacks (timing route) or crossers from the slot.
How Do I Stop RPOs on Defense?
Two ways — both simple.
Strategy 1: Man Coverage (Easiest)
Call any man coverage. Every receiver has a defender on them. RPO thrown = defender makes a play. Done.
Strategy 2: Slot Corner Hard Flat (Better)
- Call Nickel, Dime, or 4-2-5
- Put slot corner in hard flat (A → left on left stick)
- MANUALLY move him inside a few steps
- This gives inside leverage — blockers can't touch him
- Result: pick sixes or deflections
Bonus: man up an interior defender on the RPO receiver for extra coverage.
What's the Goal Line Dolphin Dive?
Special dive that only works near the goal line (within 2-3 yards).
How to do it:
- Hold left stick UP in the direction you're running
- Hold X (Xbox) or Square (PlayStation)
- Need an offensive lineman in front of you
You go UP AND OVER the pile instead of through it. WAY higher than a normal dive. Works almost every time in short yardage.
How Do I Flip Halfback Direct Snap?
This keeps defenses guessing.
Oregon State playbook → Gun Trio Wide Receiver Strong → HB Direct Snap:
- Use right stick to flip the play direction
- Read which side looks weaker
- Your QB lead blocks for you
- Can also motion receivers to change formation strength
Iowa playbook → Gun Tight Slot Open → same concept.
Great for short yardage and 2-point conversions.
How Do I Set Up Formation Subs for Better Audibles?
Your audibles are based on PERSONNEL. Here's how to audible from Five Wide to Goal Line:
- In formation screen, press Y/Triangle
- Replace two WRs with tight ends
- Add two halfbacks (or a fullback)
- Now you can audible to Goal Line from Five Wide
Fourth and inches? Come out Five Wide. Don't like the look? Audible to Goal Line. Defense won't be ready.
Set this up EVERY GAME (unless in Dynasty mode). Take the delay of game — it's worth it.
What Are the Best Passing Settings?
Main Menu → Settings → Game Options → Pass Mechanics:
- Passing Type: Placement
- Accuracy Slow Down: Off
- Passively Increase: Small (or None for advanced)
- Rifle Speed: 7
- User Only: On
Screenshot these. Works at the highest level.
How Do I Make Better Reads?
Stop looking at PLAYERS. Look at AREAS of the field.
Example - Gun Trips Y Slot "Inside Attack":
- First area: Short middle (HB route)
- Second area: Middle of field (TE in route)
- Third area: Deep sideline (comeback)
Say "not open" and MOVE YOUR EYES if an area is covered. Don't stare. Be willing to take underneath stuff — you'll be more successful overall.
What's the Best Base Defense?
Cover 4 Drop with underneath shade. Super simple.
Setup:
- Find Cover 4 Quarters, Palms, or Drop
- Press Y/Triangle → down on right stick
- That's it
This stops drags, flats, and forces them to attack intermediate — where your USER takes over.
User Defender Rules:
- User someone in a yellow zone
- All movement with LEFT STICK
- Hold RT/R2 for speed burst when committing
- Hold LT/L2 to strafe for better animations
- Use right stick to SWITCH STICK mid-play to different defenders
Your user is the difference between touchdowns and turnovers.
How Do I Stop the Run from Under Center?
User the high safety instead of a linebacker.
Coaching Adjustments:
- Click right stick for adjustments
- Safety Depth: one tick left
- Safety Width: one tick left
Play Setup:
- Call Cover 3 or Cover 4
- Y/Triangle → down on right stick (shade underneath)
- User the high safety
- Come downhill aggressively at the snap
- Slow play slightly for play action
The safety won't help in run defense unless you user him. This gives you an extra defender.
What Button Changes Do I Need to Know?
Two critical changes from last year:
Contain:
- NEW: Right Bumper → Left Bumper (RB → LB)
- OLD: Double tap Right Bumper (doesn't work anymore)
Switch Stick on Blitzers:
- If you're on a blitzing player, you MUST use D-pad first
- Right stick will hit stick instead of switching
- Flick D-pad any direction to switch off blitzer
- Then use right stick normally
This applies to any player in a blitz assignment — DL, blitzing safety, anyone.
