How to Get Free Sacks with User Rush
Most players hover around the offensive line with their user — fake the blitz, confuse the O-line, let someone else come free. Works great in Double Mug and other overload blitzes.
But good players catch on. They untarget your user. They're calling your bluff — "we know he's not really blitzing, let's ignore him and block everyone else."
Here's how to punish them: Left Trigger + Down on Left Stick for user rush. When they untarget you, you come totally free up the middle or B gap. No time for routes to develop. Easy sack.
Best part? Now they HAVE to respect your user again — which means your regular blitzes start working.
When Good Players Stop Your Fake Blitz
You'll know they're untargeting when your overload blitzes suddenly stop getting home. You're doing everything right — hovering near the line, selling the fake — but nobody's coming free anymore.
That's when you flip the script.
Instead of faking, you actually send your user. Left Trigger and Down on the Left Stick gives you that user rush. Ball snaps, they're not blocking you because they think you're faking, and you walk right to the quarterback.
This works because they've adjusted to your fake. They're telling their offensive line "don't worry about the user, he's not coming." Now he IS coming — and nobody's home to stop him.
How to Execute the Free Sack Blitz
Setup is the same as any overload blitz. Mid Blitz is the most popular formation for this.
Pre-snap:
- Get your user close to the offensive line
- Look for signs they're untargeting you — linemen not looking your way, no shifts toward your position
- Hold Left Trigger + Down on Left Stick
Post-snap:
- Don't hesitate like you would with a fake
- Rush straight at the QB
- Usually comes free up the middle or through B gap
- Take the sack or force a panic throw
Key difference from regular user blitz — this only works when they're specifically untargeting you. If they're still respecting your fake, stick with the fake.
What Makes This Different from Regular Blitzing
Regular user rush — you're sending an extra body they have to account for. They'll slide protection, chip with running backs, whatever.
This technique — you're exploiting their specific adjustment to YOUR fake blitz. They've decided you're not a threat. That decision becomes their weakness.
It's not about raw numbers. It's about timing and misdirection. You've trained them to ignore you, then you use that against them.
When to Use Free Sack User Rush
Perfect situations:
- Third and long when you NEED a sack
- Red zone — short field, less room for quick throws
- After they've successfully picked up your fake blitz 2-3 times
- Against opponents who make a lot of pre-snap adjustments
Don't use when:
- They're still falling for your fakes
- Short yardage situations — they might run right at you
- Every play — becomes predictable
This is a changeup, not your base defense. Use it to keep them honest, then go back to your regular pressure concepts.
Best Formations for User Rush
Mid Blitz — the go-to. Super overload style, tons of bodies coming. Perfect for this concept because it already looks like chaos.
Any overload blitz works though. The key is having enough other rushers that your user coming free creates an impossible blocking situation.
You can run this from different defenses, but stick with formations where your user fake is already part of the concept. Don't try this from Tampa 2 or other coverage-heavy looks.
What Happens After You Use This
Smart opponents adjust back. They start respecting your user again — which means your regular fake blitz starts working.
You've created a guessing game. Are you faking or actually coming? They have to account for both possibilities, which makes their blocking much harder.
That's when you know it worked. When they go back to targeting your user, you go back to faking. When they untarget again, you rush again.
Common Mistakes with User Rush
Using it too much — this is a situational tool. Spam it and they'll just start blocking you every play.
Wrong timing — don't hesitate like you would with a fake. Commit to the rush immediately.
Wrong situations — don't try this on first down or when they might run. Best on obvious passing downs.
Not reading the offense — if they're still falling for your fakes, keep faking. Only rush when they've adjusted.
The whole concept relies on them making a specific mistake — untargeting your user. If they're not making that mistake, use different pressure.
