What is Show Blitz in College Football 26
Show Blitz changes your defensive alignment pre-snap. Brings safeties down. Puts linebackers in the box. Creates a completely different look than your base formation.
Two ways to activate:
- Full Show Blitz: Double tap Right Bumper (RB/R1) — brings safeties AND linebackers down
- Linebacker-Only Show Blitz: Press Right on D-pad, then tap Right Bumper — keeps safeties back, linebackers come down
Every formation has a different Show Blitz look. Some are nasty. Some are trash. You gotta test what works with YOUR formations.
Why it matters: Offense reads your alignment. They see light box — they run. They see heavy box — they throw. Show Blitz lets you mess with their reads. Look like you're doing one thing, actually doing another.
When to Use Show Blitz Alignment
Against spread formations that run: Wide receiver sets love to run the ball because they know you don't have numbers in the box. Linebacker-Only Show Blitz fixes that. Keeps your safeties back for coverage. Brings linebackers down for run support.
RPO situations: Run-pass options kill you when you're outnumbered. Show Blitz gets your linebackers in position to handle the run fake AND jump the quick throws. Even better — move your slot corner down manually after showing blitz.
Short yardage: Goal line. 3rd and 2. 4th and 1. Full Show Blitz puts everyone in attack mode. Safeties come down like extra linebackers. Forces offense to beat you over the top.
Mind games: Offense sees that aggressive look — they might check to something else. Or they stick with their play and get stopped. Either way, you win.
Base defense strategy: Some people build their entire scheme around Show Blitz. Always bringing extra bodies down. Making offense prove they can throw over it.
How to Execute Show Blitz Effectively
Full Show Blitz setup:
- Call your defensive formation
- Double tap Right Bumper (RB/R1)
- Watch safeties drop down significantly
- All linebackers move into the box
Linebacker-Only Show Blitz setup:
- Call your defensive formation
- Press Right on D-pad
- Tap Right Bumber (RB/R1) once
- Linebackers come down, safeties stay back
Example with Mid Blitz formation: Double tap Right Bumper brings your safeties down slightly. Your corners come down too. Creates this hybrid look that's not quite cover 2, not quite cover 1.
Manual adjustments after Show Blitz: Don't just show blitz and hope. Move that slot corner down manually. Shade linebackers toward the strength. Make specific adjustments based on what you see.
Formation testing: Hit practice mode. Try Show Blitz with Nickel 3-3 Over. Then try it with 4-3 Over. Then Dime. See which ones give you the look you want.
What Beats Show Blitz Defense
Deep throws: You bring everyone down — offense can throw over you. Especially if you're using Full Show Blitz and both safeties are playing run support.
Quick slants and hitches: Fast throws underneath your linebacker coverage. If your LBs are thinking run first, those quick passes can hurt.
Outside runs: You pack the middle — smart offense attacks the edges. Sweeps, tosses, outside zone. Your safeties might be out of position to help.
Play action: Offense sells the run fake. Your Show Blitz defenders bite on it. Now you've got receivers running past defenders who thought it was a run.
Common Show Blitz Mistakes
Using it in every situation: Show Blitz isn't always better. Some formations — the Show Blitz look is actually WORSE than the base alignment. Test first.
Not adjusting after showing: You bring bodies down but don't tell them what to do. Your linebacker comes down but doesn't know his assignment. Manual adjustments matter.
Wrong timing: Showing blitz against obvious passing downs gives offense easy reads. 3rd and 15 — they're throwing anyway. Don't give them extra help by removing your deep coverage.
Forgetting about the edges: You stuff the middle, forget about outside runs. Bring down that safety but don't account for sweeps and tosses.
No counter-punches: Good offense adjusts to your Show Blitz. They start throwing over it or around it. You gotta have answers. Can't just keep showing blitz when it's getting beat.
Show Blitz works when you use it smart. Wrong time, wrong situation — offense will make you pay.
