TL;DR: The 5 best offenses in Madden 27 right now are the Texans, Cardinals, Falcons, Dolphins, and Shotgun Classic. Each one gives you a full scheme. Run plays to punch people in the mouth, pass plays to keep them guessing, and enough formations to never get figured out. If you want the short version:
- Texans, brand new formations, tons of return routes, runs deep. Best all-around playbook.
- Cardinals. The new Gun Doubles Clamp Stack alone makes this thing scary. Day 1 popular.
- Falcons - unique shotgun. Gun Tight Flex and Trips TE Flex are money.
- Dolphins. Arc motion series lets you play gimmicky OR locked-in. Both work.
- Shotgun Classic - pure shotgun. Sauce like nothing else. Meta formations everywhere.
You don't need to be a genius to win with these. Pick one. Learn a few plays. Start running it. That's the whole thing. Let's break each one down.
Why is the Texans playbook the best in Madden 27?
The Texans playbook is one of my early favorites for the BEST playbook in Madden 27. Why? Because you can string together brand new formations and plays into a full scheme. It's incredible.
Best Texans Single Back plays
You've got the popular sets. Wing Pair, Wing Flex Close, Wing Close. But look at Trips Close. Brand new formation.
3 killer run plays:
- Halfback Duo, always awesome
- Halfback Draw, sneakily good
- Halfback Stretch. Flip it either way
Passing plays: Slants, PA Flood, Corner Double In.
With Halfback Stretch, flip it either way. Man coverage on the left? Run it right. Can we get outside? Bad angle from the defender. Bang. Gain of seven. You can also go hurry up and audible to some really cool formations.
Best Texans Shotgun formations
Here's where it gets really cool.
Gun Normal Y Off Close
- Jet Touch Pass
- Cheap Flat X Post. One of the best plays in the game. Halfback on a flat route, nice return route from the left slot, post from the right. Snap it, get the motion going left. Tight end's there, but the return route in the little seam is your read. Dive forward, keep it moving.
Doubles Y Off Close. Right next to it, bunch of cool stuff.
Gun Tight. Want plays you just snap?
- Motion MTN Slant Whip In, awesome
- Halfback Base, great
- PA Clear Cross. A man beater. If man coverage is popular, people will be calling this.
- Post Z Return, no hot routes. Snap it. Halfback flat, don't love it. Tight end, don't love it. Return route, got it.
- Tight Crosses
Return routes keep showing up early. That should tell you something.
Texans bounce motion and bunch formations
Out of Gun Tight Off / Tight Off Weak and W Off Trio Close, you get bounce motions. Bounce Dash Crosser, Bounce PA Deep Out, Bounce Inside Zone. The bounce is a little motion where the back bounces before the snap. Run a play off it, then hit the halfback on a slide route. Early or late. Great zone and man beater.
You also get Gun Trips Tight End with reload motions, Bunch Nasty (you already know), and Bunch Tight End Strong. One of the only playbooks in the game with it. Tight end left, four receivers right, auto motion left on the snap. Called it stock, hit the green beater. Touchdown.
Plus Empty Sketch Stack. Yeah, "sketch" sounds funny. It's actually legit. The Texans playbook is awesome, and it runs from your own three-yard line.
How good is the Cardinals playbook in Madden 27?
The Cardinals playbook has a realistic chance to take Madden 27 by storm. The reason is one formation.
Gun Doubles Clamp Stack. The brand new formation
This formation is BRAND NEW this year. First time you've ever heard of it. Here's what's inside:
- Motion Shuffle vs Smash. Insane variety
- Motion Shuffle Mesh Rail
- PA Post Shot Choice
- Mid Zone, classic handoff
- Flood Seam, that in-and-up route torches middle coverage
- Inside Zone
- Return Bench. RPO Zone Alert
- Return Paz Over
- RPO Alert Out
- Ohio Return
- Spot Choice
- Motion Rub Smash
- Portland Y Wheel
On Return Bench. You don't have to keep the motion route. Put him on a drag, streak your tight end, and now you're high-low in the middle with a flood concept. That's a 26-yard gain right there.
Interesting play after interesting play. This can be one of the better formations in the game.
Cardinals Pistol and QB runs
Pistol Deuce Close is worth highlighting. If you played College 27, you know deuce close is solid. Runs:
- Halfback Split Dive
- Halfback Stretch
- Halfback Inside Zone Split
- Halfback Dive
You're going to run the ball. Mesh Spot is cool too. Stock fade route, plus RPO Read Cheat Flat and RPO Read Cheat Wheel Flat. Symmetrical formation, run it right or left, they'll never know.
For QB runs, go to Gun Wing Slot Offset → Play Type → Run → scroll all the way over:
- QB Zone. Always good for short yards
- QB Wrap
- Motion Sweep

What are the best plays in the Falcons Madden 27 playbook?
The Falcons have one of the best playbooks in the game. Here's what you need to know.
Pistol Bunch Tight End. The foundation
Run this no matter what scheme you're building. Always one of the best pistol formations every year.
Two runs:
- Halfback Dive, punches you in the mouth up the middle
- Halfback Zone, longer developing, hits outside
Two great pass plays, no hot routes needed: Verticals and Cross Drag.
Falcons Gun Tight Off and Gun Tight Flex
Gun Tight Off. One of the easiest formations to run in the game. Lots of fun motions. The Tight End Corners is always popular.
Halfback Scissors. If you want a play you can pick up for the first time in 10 years and just call, this is it. Read progression:
- Tight end first read
- Check halfback in the seam
- Go backside to ins
- Halfback late in the corner if you have time
Gun Tight Flex hasn't been popular since Madden 17. But it's still really good. Plays worth knowing: Halfback Draw, PA Shot (Post Shot is nasty, great man destroyer), Inside High Low, Slot Curl Bench Cross, Halfback Counter, Halfback Speed In, and Cheat Bunch Drive Corner. Y Sail is always good to have.
Falcons Gun Trips TE Flex
One of the best stock plays in the game. A favorite for four years since they added it.
- Put the B receiver on a streak, slant, drag. Or keep stock. Doesn't matter.
- The halfback flat route is really good here.
- They blitz? Quick option to the flat or the return route. Got pummeled and still gained 12.
Y Off Trips Close (also called U Trips) is one of the best pure passing formations every year. The post route on the left from X is something you can't put on the field yourself. It only comes stock. Space Gun here is awesome too.
What to run out of the Falcons
- Pistol Bunch Tight End, Cross Drag, run the ball a lot, but sometimes catch them off guard. Drag hits late, gain of six.
- Gun Tight Flex, Halfback Speed In, keep the auto motion or get rid of it. The Y up the seam is there when it's open.
- I Form Slot Stack, Halfback Stretch, give it to your best player and let him cut it up.
Is the Dolphins playbook worth running in Madden 27?
Yes. This playbook is one of the best in the game. Every year it's fun. This year they got the fun part AND the awesome part locked in.
Dolphins Pistol Bunch smashmouth setup
If you play College 27, Pistol Bunch should ring a bell. Want smashmouth? Run this full-time. Four plays to start:
- Halfback Zone
- Verticals
- Dive
- Cross Drag
The Pistol Tight Flex arc motion series
Go one tick left to Pistol Tight Flex. Scroll the plays. Tight end arc motions everywhere. Six different plays running the same Titan arc motion, all building off each other:
- Cheat Swing Flap. Halfback swing screen. Get a playmaker in space, make somebody miss, pick up about 10. Run it to the wide side.
- Cheat Halfback Double Pass, halfback gets the swing, then launches it deep
- Cheat Tight End Double Pass, same idea, tight end throws it
- Cheat Halfback Zone
- PA Cheat Post Comeback
- Cheat Fake Swing Wheel
Why Cheat Fake Swing Wheel works: hit them with the double pass. Hit them with the swing screen. Now they're selling out for the left side. Same motion goes out, defense thinks "screen nonsense", and you hit a fundamentally sound play. Gimmicky stuff backed by foundational football. That's the whole idea.
Other Dolphins formations to know
- Gogo Twins Flex. Mesh Traffic (both halfbacks flare to the flats, works vs man and zone) and Check It Down
- Split Close Pro. More arc motions. PH Wrap Cross motions all the way across. Also RPO Peak. When the gimmicks run out, it still works as a straight passing set.
- Doubles Clamp Stack, new this year, one of the best passing sets. On 4th and 4, run Drag. The underneath drag pulls the yellow zone down, creates a high-low, you hit one of the two.
- Normal Wild Close, Yale Dash Flood, Gun Tight, and a full stack of bunch formations.
Two ways to play: fun style (motions, double passes, chaos) or locked-in style (pro player, foundational football). Both work. That's why this playbook is special. And Pistol Bunch Tight End. Halfback Zone (or Break Gate) is your way out when you just need to hand it up the middle and run it down somebody's face.

What is the Shotgun Classic playbook in Madden 27?
This playbook has sauce like none other. You have NEVER seen a playbook like this before. The sets are: Gun (Shotgun), Goal Line, Hail Mary, Special Teams. A few are missing on purpose. This is a shotgun playbook through and through.
Shotgun Classic heavy formations
Don't get it twisted. There's some heavy stuff here.
Split Pro Near / Split Y Off Close:
- Outside Zone Left
- Inside Zone
- Spinner Halfback Zone Right
- PA Spinner Post Blood
UFO Trips. Good stuff plus QB runs. You can run the ball out of this.
Shotgun Classic meta formations
Here's where it gets nasty. The playbook includes Bunch Tight End, Bunch Strong Offset, Bunch Spread Nasty, Tight Y Off, Tight Y Off Weak, Tight Doubles, Doubles, Doubles Hip, Doubles Flex, Y Off Close, Trips Tight End, Y Off True Close, Y Off X Close (essentially UT Trips), Spread Y Flex, and a couple Five-Wide / Empty sets. It even added Doubles Clamp Stack. Because they know it's great.
Best Shotgun Classic plays in action
- MTN Dig Under. The outside route changed to a standard drag in Madden 27. Still great, tons of setups. You could run this playbook 20 different ways.
- RPO Alert Bubble (Bunch Head). Underrated, doesn't get talked about enough. 14-yard gain. Easy.
- Motion Diamond Fake Mesh Rail. Auto motion creates a diamond right. The zig route on the left is unique.
- Inside Zone (Split Y Off Close). Use the low motion to keep the defense guessing. Playing online? They'll cheat toward the motion. Hit them right up the middle.
- Curl Flat (Trips Tight End) - classic. Corner blitz came, chip block picked it up, great gain.
- Shuffle Motion Halfback Swing (Strong Offset). Motions you usually wouldn't see out of meta formations.
- RPO Alert Swing (Y Off True Close), man coverage, stacked box, flat route, TOUCHDOWN.
Shotgun Classic is nasty. Hope for your opponents. That's all you can do.
