Madden 27OffensePassingRun GamePlaybook Tips

Quick Recap:

Start with **Pistol Bunch Tight End**. Run Halfback Dive and Halfback Zone to set up the box, then hit Cross Drag when they overcommit. Add **Gun Tight Flex** and **Gun Trips TE Flex** as your secondary formations for passing and man coverage problems. Master these three before touching anything else in the playbook.

Atlanta Falcons Offensive Playbook. Madden 27 Tips

The Falcons playbook is stupid good. Pistol, under center, shotgun. It's all there. You don't need to master every formation. Pick two or three. Run them over and over. Here's exactly where to start.

Start here: Pistol Bunch Tight End. Run the ball. Mix in Cross Drag when they sleep on the pass. That's your base. Everything else builds on top of it.

Quick breakdown of what you need:

  • Pistol Bunch Tight End - your foundation. Halfback Dive, Halfback Zone, Verticals, Cross Drag.
  • Gun Tight Flex - unique formation. Multiple run and pass options. Man destroyer.
  • Gun Trips TE Flex. One of the best stock plays in the game. Four years running.
  • I Form Slot Stack - power running. Give it to your best player and let him work.

How to Set Up Your Base Offense With Pistol Bunch Tight End

This formation is in the Falcons playbook EVERY year for a reason. Run it no matter what scheme you're building. It handles both run and pass without needing hot routes to make plays work.

Two runs you need:

  • Halfback Dive. Straight up the middle. Physical. Punishes light boxes.
  • Halfback Zone. Slower to develop. Hits outside. Good when they stack the box.

Two passes, no hot routes needed:

  • Verticals, attack deep. Simple read.
  • Cross Drag. The drag hits late. Don't force it early. Let the play develop and the route will come open behind the defense. Six yards minimum if you're patient.

Common mistake: People abandon Pistol Bunch TE too fast when the run gets stuffed. Don't. Call Cross Drag right after they load the box. That's the whole point. They can't stop both.

How to Use Gun Tight Flex to Destroy Man Coverage

This formation hasn't been popular since Madden 17. Most people skip right past it. That's a mistake. It's still really good and it's got some of the most unique plays in the Falcons book.

Best plays in Gun Tight Flex:

  • PA Shot / Post Shot. Every route is nasty. Built to wreck man coverage.
  • Inside High Low. Stress the middle of the field vertically.
  • Slot Curl Bench Cross. Horizontal stress, multiple options.
  • Halfback Counter. Keeps the defense honest on the ground.
  • Halfback Speed In. This is a motion play. Keep the auto motion or kill it. Watch the Y receiver up the seam. Hit it when it's open.
  • Cheat Bunch Drive Corner. Tough to defend when they're not expecting bunch concepts from this formation.
  • Y Sail. Always worth having. Classic route concept that works every year.

Why it works: Defenses don't see Gun Tight Flex much. The reads are clean, the routes are stacked, and PA Shot is a legit man destroyer. Meaning if they're in man coverage, your receivers win their routes.

When to Use Gun Trips TE Flex

Use this when you need a reliable passing play and you don't want to think too hard about it. This has been one of the best stock plays in the game for four straight years. The routes work as-is.

How to read it:

  • The B receiver. Put him on a streak, slant, or drag. Or just leave him stock. Doesn't matter much.
  • The halfback flat route is your safety valve. If they bring pressure, if they blitz or scream at you, dump it to the flat. Quick. You'll still pick up yards even if you take a hit.
  • If the flat closes, you have the return route as a second quick option.

Real situation: They blitz. You take the hit. Halfback in the flat. Still gained 12. That's what this play does. It punishes aggression automatically.

How to Run the Ball From Under Center

People sleep on I-formation. Don't. The Falcons have three solid I-form sets for the run game.

  • I Form Close
  • I Form Wide Off Close
  • I Form Slot Stack. Run Halfback Stretch here. Give it to your best player. Let him find the cut. Don't hold turbo while he's cutting through traffic. It kills your agility and control. Save turbo for open field.

Single Back formations are here too if you want more spread run options.

How to Set Up Gun Tight Off for Beginners

If you haven't touched Madden in 10 years, call Halfback Scissors from Gun Tight Off. That's it. Pick it up and go.

Read progression for Halfback Scissors:

  1. Tight end, first look
  2. Halfback in the seam, second read
  3. Backside ins, third option
  4. Halfback late in the corner, only if you have time and a clean pocket

Gun Tight Off also has Duo and O1 Trap for the run game. The formation has fun motions too. Play around with them to create pre-snap confusion.

Tight End Corners is always a popular play here. Run it when you need a chunk play down the seams.

What Counters These Plays and How to Stay Ahead

Defenses will catch on. Here's how you stay ahead of them:

  • If they load the box on Pistol Bunch TE runs. Call Cross Drag immediately. Make them pay for cheating up.
  • If they play soft zone against Trips TE Flex - attack horizontally. Baby dot concepts, routes 15 yards or shorter, create a 5 vs 4 advantage against zone because deep defenders are useless. The halfback flat and quick options kill soft coverage.
  • If they bring consistent pressure. Gun Tight Off's Halfback Scissors has built-in answers. Go through the read fast. Flat to the halfback if you need to dump it quick.
  • If they lock up man coverage. Go to Gun Tight Flex PA Shot. That play was BUILT for man coverage situations.

Which Formations to Ignore (For Now)

Doubles W Stack and Doubles Hip. They're in the book. They're not bad. Just not where you should spend your time learning the Falcons.

The empties are there too. Empty Chips Quads is worth checking out eventually. But don't start there. Get your base down first.

Y Off Trips Close, also called U Trips, is one of the best pure passing formations in the game every single year. The stock routes are clean. There's a post route on the left from X that you can ONLY get because it comes pre-loaded on the play. You can't add it yourself with hot routes. Space Gun from this formation is also nasty. That's an advanced piece to add once you've got the rest locked in.

Bottom line: Pistol Bunch Tight End is your starting point. Add Gun Tight Flex for passing. Add I Form Slot Stack for physical runs. Learn those three. The Falcons playbook will do the rest.
