How To Play Like A Top 1% Player | College Football 26

CFB 26DefensePlaybook TipsGeneralOffenseUser Defense

Quick Recap:

Top 1% players rely on systems, not talent. Master go-to plays like reliable RPOs and one-play touchdowns against different coverages, stop making dumb mistakes, and have specific red zone plays ready. Focus on a few plays you can execute perfectly rather than being mediocre at everything. Always have built-in answers for the meta and master your user control on both offense and defense.

TL;DR: Top 1% players don't have special talent. They have systems that make the game easy. Master these six principles: Make the game easy for yourself with go-to plays. Stop beating yourself with dumb mistakes. Have specific red zone plays ready. Master a few plays instead of being okay at everything. Be prepared for the meta with built-in answers. Master your user on both sides of the ball.

Most top players have systems to make the game seem easy that almost nobody else has. Here's the thing. You don't need to be a genius to win games. You just need to understand what separates good players from great ones.

How Do I Make College Football 26 Easy For Myself?

Let me tell you a quick story. In Madden 20, I made a deep tournament run in the Club Championship Series. I threw a ton of hitches, sat in the pocket. Played very ethical ball. I ended up losing to a good friend because I struggled on offense and had nothing to fall back on.

I made a note to myself after that tournament: Run offense that relies on myself, yet doesn't put too much stress on me every single game.

What does making the game easier actually look like in College Football 26?

  • Have a one-play touchdown built into your offense against different coverages. You don't have to try hard that drive
  • Have a great run play or RPO that picks up easy and consistent yardage
  • Running the ball is low risk. If you pass every play, a lot can go wrong

I'm not saying spam cheese all the time. But find a way to make the game easier on yourself. Not every touchdown, not every offensive drive should be a struggle.

Why Do I Keep Losing Close Games In College Football 26?

Here's the thing. One simple bad decision can lose you a game.

Watch any competitive game. The opponent throws a nice dot. Then another dot. But the goal on defense is simple. Make him work EVERY SINGLE PLAY. Because eventually, people beat themselves consistently. They always do.

What Does Beating Yourself Actually Look Like?

ON OFFENSE:

  • Rolling out for no reason. Then when nothing's open, you force a throw. This is one of the scariest things you can do
  • Throwing before the route has even cut, the route would have been open, but you threw it super early
  • Panicking under pressure, forcing throws when you see nothing open

Never do this. Click the right stick and throw the ball away. We live to fight another down.

We have to:

  • Slow down
  • Let our receivers cut
  • Be comfortable with our plays
  • Be willing to throw the ball away
  • Be willing to take a sack sometimes

ON DEFENSE:

  • Blowing your assignment with your user: Before the snap, always ask: "Who is my user? What is my responsibility this play?"
  • Giving up free touchdowns: Do you blow coverage? That's a way you're beating yourself

This is actually the strategy I used this past January when I went 203 and 15 in online play. Most of those games, I actually wouldn't say that I won. My opponent just lost. And they usually lost really fast.

What Plays Should I Call In The Red Zone?

Inside the 10 is a TOTALLY different game on offense than the rest of the field.

The same plays you use in the open field just don't always work down here. You need almost a specific offense for this area of the field.

What Works In The Red Zone:

  • UAB offensive playbook, has halfback direct snaps, which are incredibly good
  • Attack quickly, directly in the flat, across the back of the end zone, drags over the middle
  • Halfback direct or QB blast, these get downhill, blocking is great, very quick developing
  • When you're short yardage, dive above the pylon

Red Zone Specific Play: Gun Trips Tight End - Curl Flat

  1. Take your inside slot wide receiver
  2. Put him on a zig route
  3. He finds the little open pocket right in the middle
  4. You also have the Texas route going over the middle as backup

This is not a play I call very much in the open field. But here in this situation, I love it.

Should I Run A Lot Of Different Plays Or Master A Few?

What's better: someone who knows everything or someone who's mastered just a few things? The answer consistently is someone who's mastered just a few things.

Look at a Civil.GG scheme. Houston scheme with six pass plays and three run plays in coaches favorites. Why only six pass plays?

  • A pass play flipped is really two different plays. Going two different ways. So really this is 12
  • If you master these six plays, you'd be unstoppable dang near

Think like a real team. If you're the offensive coordinator, what do you want? Your quarterback to be okay at 50 different plays? Or five concepts that your quarterback has mastered?

Easy Formation To Master: Gun Trips Tight End Offset Weak

PLAY #1: VERTICALS

  1. Take your tight end, put him on a return route
  2. Outside left wide receiver, put him on a curl first, then custom stem him up one tick
    • Wire triangle, select him, hold left bumper, go up on the D-pad one time
    • Gets him going deeper

Your progression:

  1. First look: Underneath, halfback speed out
  2. Second look: Inside, return route
  3. Third look: Up, curl

PLAY #2: RPO Read Bubble, Really simple. Nice counter to have.

I love having numerous plays I've mastered from the same formation. Everything looks exactly the same. The defense never really knows what you're going to do.

How Do I Beat Mid Blitz And Other Meta Defenses?

Top players in the world don't get upset when they go up against the meta. This is AWESOME when it happens because it's so popular. They have built-in answers for everything.

How To Beat Mid Blitz (And Any Cover Zero Heavy Blitz Man Coverage):

  1. Block your halfback, block your tight end, you HAVE to have that
  2. If they hover with their user, go up on the right stick, put that flame icon over their user. Select it and then put A on him. He's untargeted
  3. Check to make sure everyone looks like they're blocked
  4. Set up three man beating routes:
    • One deep curl route (can be a curl cut so it can map one time)
    • A drag and a slant
    • Two deep curls
    • Comeback route

These principles apply out of every playbook, every game mode, every everything. And it's going to apply next year as well.

Since it's meta, you know you're going to play it. Sit down for 5 minutes, prepare against it, and then whenever you see it, it's almost an auto win.

How Important Is My User In College Football 26?

The best players understand one simple truth. Their user controls the game.

ALL the best players in the world understand that their user is the most impactful player on the field when it comes to defense. On offense, your user's the quarterback or the ball carrier. Which is the most impactful player on the field.

What This Actually Means:

ON OFFENSE:

  • Making the correct reads, REALLY know your plays so you can make the right reads
  • With the ball carrier, Be willing to make stick work moves. Get active
  • When catching the pass. Click on and go catch the ball. You're going to be better at catching than the CPU

ON DEFENSE:

  • It's user ring. It is PURELY user ring
  • Your user is the most important player for stopping the run AND pass
  • Switch sticking is a whole other thing you have to get good at

The best players don't avoid this fact. They say, "You know what? You're right. The best way I can get better today isn't by changing playbooks, isn't by running a new play. It's simply by getting better with my user responsibilities."

Pick one side of the ball to focus on. That is what helps you go to that next super level.
