Quick Recap:

Stop getting sacked by using Right Trigger + Up on right stick to see flame icons over free rushers, then set Auto Base Protection to Empty Protection for consistent blocking. Use the Wingbone QB run glitch and unstoppable RPO flats to move the ball, while formation audibles confuse defenses and gap shooting destroys shotgun runs.

TL;DR: Seven game-breaking tips that'll have you winning more College Football 26 games IMMEDIATELY. We're talking about blocking free rushers (the ONE adjustment that'll save your QB), a Wingbone QB run glitch that gets automatic yards, RPO flats that nobody can stop, formation audibles that'll confuse any defense, how to blow up goal line plays, gap shooting shotgun runs, and enlarged graphics for better visibility. These aren't theory — these are the exact plays and adjustments top players use right now.

How Do I Stop Getting Sacked By Free Rushers Every Play?

Here's the thing — you're getting sacked because you're not seeing who's coming free. It's that simple.

I was on a Zoom call with a college esports player who kept showing me clips of him getting destroyed. When I slowed it down, the answer was RIGHT THERE on his screen. He just wasn't looking.

See Your Blocking Assignments

Pre-snap, hold right trigger and hold up on the right stick. You'll see flame emojis over the guys who are coming free if they blitz. These are the guys your protection WON'T pick up.

Every play has different built-in protection:

  • Some plays slide protection right
  • Corner Strike gives you empty protection
  • Lead Swing Spot gives you weird base protection with the tight end leading outside

Problem is — you never know which player's coming free. We need consistency.

Set Up Consistent Protection

Start of every game:

  1. Click the right stick in
  2. Scroll down to Auto Base Protection
  3. Select Empty Protection (better against stunts than base)

Now your protection is consistent across all plays. But you'll STILL have flame icons over somebody — that's normal. You just want them over guys who AREN'T blitzing.

Adjust Your Protection

Once you identify who's coming (usually by play 2-3), use the right stick only to change blocking. Pressure off the left edge? Flick right stick left. This slides your protection that direction.

Sometimes that's not enough. Next level:

  1. Hold left bumper
  2. Do a half slide left
  3. ID the mic — hold left bumper + A (Xbox) or X (PlayStation) on the free rusher

Sometimes the simplest fix is just left bumper + A to ID the mic on the free rusher with base protection.

Remember — you HAVE routes open when you're getting sacked. You just need time.

What's the Wingbone QB Run Glitch That Gets Free Yards?

This is a legitimate glitch. Not proud of it, but it's in the game and people are using it.

Where To Find It

Only in three playbooks:

  • Air Force
  • Option
  • Generic Cut playbook (Ultimate Team)

Formation: Wingbone
Play: ISO or Halfback ISO

How It Works

Call the play. Before snapping, flick the right stick to change the run direction. It LOOKS like the wing back will get the handoff, but your QB keeps it and takes off up the middle.

Against goal line defense, you're getting 1-2 yards minimum every time. Better than QB sneak.

Don't take it outside. Take it up the middle. That's where the glitch works best.

How Do I Make RPOs Actually Work?

You're probably already running RPOs. You're just not using them right.

Gun Deuce Close - RPO Readfly Wheel

This play's in a TON of playbooks. But here's how to make it deadly:

Hot route your slot receivers to flat routes. Why? If you don't overthrow it, flats are IMPOSSIBLE to defend on RPOs. The defense needs either man coverage or hard flats — and both leave something else open.

From Gun Deuce Close, you can also:

  • Put slots on flat routes
  • Streak the inside receivers

Now the defense has to pick their poison.

Another Example - Doubles Y Off Week

Play: RPO Alert Stick or Return RPO Alert Stick

Instead of using the auto-motion:

  • Flat the motion guy
  • Streak the slot receiver
  • Put outside receiver on a drag instead of hitch

You just made an okay RPO completely broken. Still have a decent handoff if you don't throw.

Use RPO flats and RPO streaks. They force the defense's hand every play.

Why Should I Audible To Different Formation Strengths?

Best players in College 26 ALL do this. It's not about audibling to different plays — it's about audibling to formations that completely change where your strength is.

Example Setup

Start in Gun Trips Tight End (trips left). Audible to Trio Unbalanced or Ty formation (strength right).

The defense has to completely reset. They're slow. They're confused. You snap immediately and hit them before they adjust.

Why This Works

When you can change your formation strength:

  • Defense has to worry about it EVERY play
  • Opens up run game AND pass game
  • You can still just snap from your base formation

The mental game is HUGE. They have to respect the audible even when you don't use it.

Add audibles that switch your formation strength. Not just different plays — different sides of the field.

How Do I Stop Goal Line Plays From Scoring?

When someone gets inside the 5, that's your chance to win the game. Here's how to get stops.

The Setup

Formation: Goal Line 53
Coverage: GL Man (Goal Line Man)

Adjustments:

  1. Pinch defensive line — Left on D-pad, down on left stick
  2. Slant inside — Left on D-pad, down on right stick

What This Stops

QB Sneak: Blows it up consistently. Maybe they get an inch — can't stop physics.

Fullback Dive: Also gets destroyed. User your linebacker down there just in case.

These two plays gone = 2-3 wasted downs for the offense.

Where It's Weak

Power O: Hit or miss. Might blow it up, might give up yards.

Toss: This hurts. You can try to user it, but it's not consistent.

Process: GL Man → Pinch line → Slant inside → User the linebacker

Sometimes they get a crazy animation. That's football. But you'll get stops more often than not.

What's the Best Way To Stop Shotgun Runs?

There's a gap shoot that'll blow up almost every shotgun run in the game.

The Setup

Formation: Nickel 33 Mint (in most playbooks)
Play: Cover Three Sky (or any play)

Pre-snap adjustments:

  1. Spread defensive line — Left on D-pad, up on left stick
  2. Show blitz linebacker — Right on D-pad, right bumper (R1)

How It Works

Look at the offense's blocking. Move your linebacker around — you'll see the blocking assignments change. Find the spot where NOBODY's blocking your guy.

Key: Use the linebacker OPPOSITE the halfback, then get on the halfback side when the ball snaps. Push that left stick and make the tackle.

What To Expect

CRUSHES inside zone from shotgun. Not as good against under center runs like power.

Even when you don't come free, usually someone else will. That's the beauty of gap shoots.

Do this once or twice, they'll stop running. Then you do whatever you want.

Should I Use Enlarged Graphics Settings?

Look — some people can't see the buttons well. Maybe you're on a small screen, sitting far from your TV, or your eyes aren't what they used to be.

What It Does

Makes ALL onfield graphics bigger:

  • Button icons
  • Passing meter
  • Any other onfield graphic

How To Turn It On

Go to: Options → Accessibility → Enlarge Onfield Graphics

Toggle on or off.

I don't use it, but tons of people do and it helps them win more games. Maybe it'll help you too.
