Quick Recap:

The RPO Read Wide Flat from Gun Trips Tight End gives you four options in one play — handoff, keeper, bubble, and flat route. Razorback Crossers from Gun Tight Open destroys man coverage with crossing routes that create natural picks underneath. These are battle-tested plays that work without complicated adjustments.

TL;DR: These 10 plays will WIN you games in College Football 26. Period. From the unstoppable RPO Read Y Flat that gives you FOUR options on one play, to simple screens that work once per game — every single one is battle-tested. No complicated setups. No 20-step adjustments. Just straight-up plays that work.

What's the Best RPO in College Football 26?

The RPO Read Wide Flat from Alabama's playbook. Hands down.

Formation: Gun Trips Tight End
Playbooks: Alabama, Buffalo, Northwestern, Washington

This isn't just another RPO bubble. You get:

  • Handoff option
  • QB keeper
  • RPO bubble left
  • Flat route right

ALL in the same play. That's FOUR different ways to attack the defense without changing the play call.

I run this in the red zone. I run this in the open field. When the defense crashes down — keep it. When they stay home — hand it off. When they overload the box — hit the bubble or flat.

That's pretty tough to defend — especially in Gun Trips Tight End which already has a ton of other good stuff.

How Do You Beat Man Coverage Every Time?

Razorback Crossers destroys man coverage. It's stupid simple.

Formation: Gun Tight Open
Playbook: Arkansas

Setup:

  1. Select your left slot receiver (wire triangle)
  2. Put him on a slot fade (left trigger)
  3. Snap the ball

The underneath mesh concept creates natural bumping. Both drags get open against man — the defenders literally run into each other trying to cover them.

Your reads:

  • Drags first — consistent underneath yardage
  • Deep crosser — when you need the big play
  • Slot fade — if they play too aggressive underneath

What's the Best Stock Play That Needs Zero Hot Routes?

Mesh Post from USC's playbook. No adjustments. No hot routes. Just pure football.

Formation: Gun Bunch Ace Offset
Playbook: USC only

The Read Progression:

First Read: Tight End Flat
Throw him fast against a hard flat. Throw him normal against any regular flat. If they don't defend it — hit him quick. Make them respect it.

Second Read: Double Drags
Two drags going different directions. Read which one finds open space. Pretty safe throws that beat man and get underneath zone.

Third Read: Post Route
This is the backbreaker — but it's a tougher read. You could throw picks if you force it. Work underneath first, THEN look deep.

Golden Rule: NEVER try to throw the post first. Always work underneath, then up.

What's the Most Annoying Mini-Scheme to Defend?

The QB Blast + Halfback Screen combo from Gun Bunch Quads Open.

Formation: Gun Bunch Quads Open
Plays: QB Blast and Halfback Screen

How to Run It:

  1. ALWAYS come out in Halfback Screen
  2. Count the numbers — 3 blockers vs 3 defenders = throw it
  3. When they spread out to defend the screen — audible to QB Blast
  4. Run straight up the middle for easy yards

This is easy enough for ANYBODY to run. When they load the box — screen. When they spread out — QB Blast. Back and forth until they quit.

What RPO Has Jet Motion Built In?

MTN RPO Read Flat — the perfect combination of fun AND good.

Formation: Gun Tight Open
Play: MTN RPO Read Flat (motion RPO read flat)

This is a read option with JET MOTION built into it. You don't find that very often.

The Reads:

  • Focus on the R icon
  • If he crashes down → pull the ball
  • If he stands up → hand it off
  • At ANY moment → throw the flat

There's really no other play like this where you get jet motion + RPO + read option ALL in one.

How Do You Get a One-Play Touchdown Against Cover 3?

Clearout FL In is your Cover 3 bomb. Pretty simple.

Formation: Gun Bunch Wide (found in tons of playbooks)
Play: Clear Out FL In

Setup:

  1. Take your outside right receiver
  2. Put him on a comeback route
  3. Optional: Put backside receiver on a drag for checkdown
  4. Launch that ball

You NEED time for this. Every bomb needs time. But when you get it — it's an easy one-play score against Cover 3.

What's the Best New Play Only in Washington's Playbook?

MTN Z Spot — brand new this year and ONLY in Washington/Washington State playbooks.

Formation: Gun Ace Slot
Play: MTN Z Spot or Motion Z Spot

Setup:

  • Put slot receiver on a drag
  • Either leave tight end blocking OR streak him

The Reads:

  • Right side high-low: They go low, you go high. They go high, you go low.
  • Quick drag: Hit it fast across the middle
  • Backside post: Cuts over middle, great against man

Start on the sideline, work your eyes back in. Master this play — it's going to do you some serious favors.

What's the Best Run Play With Built-In RPO?

Stretch Alert Bubble — this bad boy is TOUGH.

Formation: Single Back Bunch Tight End
Playbooks: UCF, Ohio State
Play: Stretch Alert Bubble

The Stretch Run:

  • All left stick until you hit open field
  • You can cut up
  • You can bounce outside
  • Stretch runs are VERY good

The RPO Element:
If the bubble's open on the backside — hold B or Circle to bullet pass. If it's there, hit it. If it's not, DON'T force it.

Key Rule: Do NOT force the bubble. A bad read could be a pick six.

What's the Route Combo All the Best Players Use?

Hi Lo Trail — this is what ALL the best players in the world use.

Formation: Any formation with three receivers bunched together
Example: Michigan playbook

The Setup:

  • Outside bunch receiver: Return route
  • Inside receiver: Drag
  • Middle receiver: Crosser
  • Backside: Clear out route (streak/fade)
  • Running back: Flat route (or block)

The Reads:

  1. Check the quick drag FAST
  2. If not there, work up to crosser/return route
  3. Take what the defense gives you

This is SUPER tough for players to defend. They will struggle against this consistently. The hardest thing is it requires a few hot routes — but it's worth it.

What Screen Actually Works Once Per Game?

Halfback Angle Screen — the OG from last year that still catches people.

Formation: Gun Trips Halfback Weak
Play: Halfback Angle Screen

Most halfback screens are trash. The halfback gets tangled up. This one though — your halfback cuts upfield FAST and gets into stride quick.

Usage Notes:

  • Works about once per game
  • After that, defense catches on
  • Perfect when you're the away team dealing with home field advantage
  • No hot routes — just a touch shot

A lot of people online just aren't expecting this. That one time per game, it pretty much works every time.
