How to Kick Field Goals in College Football 26
Field goals win games. Period. You can have the perfect drive, get down to the red zone, stall out — and if you can't kick, those three points turn into zero. That's the difference between winning and losing close games.
The mechanics are simple. Two steps. Accuracy bar first, power meter second. Don't overthink it.
Step 1: Line up the accuracy bar in the CENTER. Hold the button when it's perfectly middle. Not close to middle. Dead center.
Step 2: Fill the power meter almost all the way up. Let go RIGHT BEFORE it hits the top. Not at the top — BEFORE the top.
That's it. Practice this with vibration turned on. You'll feel the feedback. Use it.
What Settings to Use for Kicking
Go to Settings. Find "Kicking Control Scheme." Select "Tap and Hold."
This should already be your default. If it's not — change it now. The other control schemes are garbage. Tap and Hold gives you the most control over both accuracy and power.
Turn vibration ON. Yeah, some people hate it. Don't care. The haptic feedback tells you exactly when to release. Your controller will buzz right when you need to let go of that power meter.
Why This Technique Works
The game punishes you for maxing out the power meter. Fill it completely? Accuracy penalty. Your kick goes wide even if you centered the accuracy bar perfectly.
It's counterintuitive. You think more power = better kick. Wrong. More power = less accurate. The sweet spot is right BEFORE maximum power.
Same with the accuracy bar. Close isn't good enough. Center means center. Half an inch left or right and you're missing kicks you should make.
How to Practice Field Goal Technique
Load up Practice Mode. Set yourself up at the 25-yard line. That's a 42-yard field goal — makeable but not automatic.
Kick 10 in a row using this technique:
- Center the accuracy bar EXACTLY
- Fill power to 95% — not 100%
- Use the vibration cue
Miss one? Start over. You want to build muscle memory. When it's 4th and 7 in the fourth quarter, you don't want to be thinking about mechanics. You want it automatic.
Move back to the 35-yard line. That's a 49-yarder. Harder, but still makeable with good technique. Practice until you're hitting 8 out of 10.
Don't practice from the 10-yard line. Those are gimmes. Practice from distances where games get decided — 35 to 50 yards out.
When Field Goals Matter Most
End of first half. You get the ball with 1:30 left. Drive into field goal range. Those three points before halftime shift momentum.
Fourth quarter. Down by 1, down by 2. Tie game. Field goals decide games when the score is close.
Red zone stalls. You get to the 15-yard line, can't punch it in. Still come away with points instead of nothing.
Weather games. Wind, rain — passing gets harder. Running gets stuffed. Field goals become your best scoring option.
Common Field Goal Mistakes
Rushing the accuracy bar. You see it moving, panic, hit the button too early or too late. Slow down. Wait for dead center.
Maxing out power. Think you need full power to make it from 45 yards. You don't. 95% power with perfect accuracy beats 100% power with the accuracy penalty.
Not using vibration. "I don't like the controller buzzing." Cool. Enjoy missing field goals. The vibration tells you exactly when to release. Use every advantage.
Not practicing. You run offensive plays over and over. Run defensive schemes. But never practice kicking until you need it in-game. Practice when it doesn't matter so you make them when it does.
What Happens When You Can't Kick
You go for it on 4th and 8 from the 28-yard line. Instead of taking the three points, you force a throw into coverage. Turnover on downs.
You punt from the 35-yard line because you don't trust your kicker. Pin them deep, but you got zero points from a good drive.
Close games become losses. You lose by 1, by 2, by 3. Those missed field goals cost you wins.
Good kicking opens up your entire game plan. You can take the points instead of forcing fourth down conversions. You can be aggressive knowing you have a safety net. You turn good drives into points instead of wasted possessions.
Master this technique. Practice it. Use vibration. Don't overthink it. Two steps, executed correctly, win games.
