The 10 BEST PLAYS In College Football 26!

Quick Recap:

The top plays include Double Pivot from Gun Five Wide Receiver for high stadium pulse situations, HB Direct Snap from Gun Tight Slot Open in Iowa's playbook, and the Motion RPO Read Flat for advanced users. Most require just one hot route and give you multiple high-percentage reads to beat any defense.

TL;DR: Here's the 10 best plays in College Football 26 that'll help you score more points — from simple one-hot-route plays like Double Pivot to advanced concepts like the Motion RPO Read Flat. Each play comes with the exact formation, playbook, and button inputs you need to run it successfully.

What's the Best Play for Dynasty Mode When Stadium Pulse is High?

The Double Pivot from Gun Five Wide Receiver is perfect when you're dealing with stadium pulse. You only need ONE hot route — which means you can actually get it off before the play clock runs out.

Setup:

  • Formation: Gun Five Wide Receiver
  • Play: Double Pivot (found in multiple playbooks)
  • Hot Route: Press Y/Triangle, select your outside left wide receiver, put him on a comeback (left trigger or L2)

How to Read It:

Cut the field into two halves. On the left side, you've got a high-low read between the comeback and the zig — just throw to whichever space is open. Same concept on the right side, but you've also got an in route breaking over the middle.

Pro Tip: Flip this play with the right trigger to get your trips (three receivers) to the wide side of the field. If you're not a high-level player, just pick one half of the field to read — don't try to read both.

What's the Best Halfback Direct Snap Play in College Football 26?

The HB Direct Snap from Gun Tight Slot Open in the Iowa offensive playbook is probably the best in the game.

The Secret Nobody Knows: You can flick the right stick to switch which side the run's going to. Most people just snap and run — but this gives you WAY more control.

Motion for Extra Blockers:

  • Hold Circle/B and use the D-pad to switch players
  • Against Man Coverage — motion the guy back (don't bring an extra defender)
  • Against Zone — motion the guy across, flip the run to get an extra blocker

Big play potential against pretty much any defense. Super easy to run.

What's the Best One-Hot-Route Pass Play?

The Flood from Gun Off Trio Close is possibly my favorite play in the entire game. It's brand new this year and found in the BYU offensive playbook (and others).

Setup:

  • Keep your trips to the wide side (flip with right trigger if needed)
  • Press Y/Triangle
  • Select your ISO wide receiver
  • Put him on a return route

Read Progression:

  1. First — check the outside wide receiver on the out route
  2. Second — work your eyes back inside to the zig from the tight end
  3. Third — if he's not there, work further inside to the return route

This is actually one of our number one play calls on Civil.GG. It's just incredibly, incredibly good.

How Do You Push the Ball Downfield Against Man Coverage?

Z Cross from Gun Trips Tight End is your big hitter play. Only found in the Alabama and Arizona offensive playbooks.

Setup:

  • Put your tight end on a streak
  • Put your halfback on a flat route

Primary Reads:

  1. Tight end quick — see if he's open just off the snap
  2. Halfback in the flat
  3. Crosser
  4. Deep in route

Don't take those halfback flats for granted. You want to hit that flat to make the defense play closer — then you can hit them deep.

Against Man Coverage: Take that out route and put him on a zig to optimize against man.

What's the Best Play That Needs Zero Adjustments?

Mesh Post from Gun Cluster in the Notre Dame offensive playbook. I feel comfortable just breaking the huddle and straight up snapping — not a single adjustment needed.

What You Get:

  • Two drags going underneath (the mesh)
  • Choice routes that sit against zone and continue against man
  • Post route over top
  • Halfback flat to keep them honest

How to Read It: My eyes immediately go underneath, looking at the grass at the line of scrimmage on both sides — that determines which drag gets open. If neither are there, work your eyes up to the post.

Red Zone Warning: Once you get inside the 7 or 8 yard line, your play calling should change. This play doesn't work great that close to the end zone.

What's the Most Unique RPO in College Football 26?

The Motion RPO Read Flat is only found in three playbooks. You get jet motion, read option, AND the ability to throw to the flat — all in one play.

How to Run It:

  • Look at the R icon
  • If he crashes down → Hold RT + X to pull the ball
  • If he doesn't → Hand it off
  • If the right side blocking breaks down → Dump it to the flat

This means they have to defend a read option AND a jet motion screen. Works great in short yardage situations.

What's the Easiest Pass Play That's Been Good for Years?

Curl Flat from Gun Trips Tight End. One of the best and easiest pass plays in virtual football for years.

Setup:

  1. Press Y/Triangle
  2. Select your tight end
  3. Go down on the right stick for a drag route

Quick Reads: Hit the drag immediately if there's a pocket. Then work your eyes back to the angle route from the halfback. One of the two will be open because of how they complement each other.

The post route pushes things downfield, opening up the drag underneath. Against man coverage, that post might get open — but usually you're just reading drag to angle.

What's the Best Route Combo for Scoring Touchdowns?

Mesh Spot from Gun Deuce Close. One of the best route combos in College 26.

The Adjustment: Take the wide receiver on the snag route in the middle — press Y/Triangle, select him, go up on the right stick to make him a post route.

Reading the Play: Read both drags quickly over the middle. If they're not open, work your eyes up and hit the post route. You can hit that post super late, right in the bubble, and score touchdowns.

Drags are REALLY good in this game. Add this play and you'll start scoring a lot more touchdowns.

What's the Craziest Run Play Nobody Knows About?

The Dbl Mtn HB Wrap from Gun Normal Y Off. Only found in Penn State's playbook.

What Happens: Your QB and halfback shift over, then the halfback runs a wrap play — faking the handoff to the QB while the running back keeps it. It's nuts.

The Read Option Version: Right next to it is Double Motion Read Option — a read option between the halfback and QB, but reversed.

How to Read It:

  • Watch the R icon
  • If he crashes down — hold A/X to pull the ball
  • If he doesn't — touch nothing to hand it off

I found this play on accident and I've had a surprising amount of success with it. We're running this on Heisman against Texas's defense — so it definitely works.

What Route Combo Can You Run From Any Playbook?

Dagger Whip from Gun Off Trips Nasty in the Oregon State offensive playbook — but you can recreate this from ANY playbook.

Setup: Take your outside right wide receiver and put him on an out routeY/Triangle, select the receiver, then out on the left stick.

How to Read It:

  • First check the out route
  • Work inside to the zig
  • If the zig is wide open — RAC catch with X/Square
  • If it's tighter — possession catch with A/X

Key Timing: Don't wait for the zig to go all the way outside — throw it as he's cutting in the middle. If that out route's open, you NEED to hit it and make them respect it.

This route combo works from a ton of different formations — meaning you can do it from every single playbook.
