RTG Custom High School Teams in College Football 26. What You Can Actually Do
Road to Glory lets you replace every high school team in your recruitment conference with a custom-built squad. All six of them. Your colors, your name, your rivals. Built from scratch before you ever play a snap.
That's the short version. Here's everything you need to know.
What Are Custom High School Teams in RTG?
When you start Road to Glory, the mode drops you into a high school conference before you commit to a college. Normally those six teams are generic placeholders.
But you don't have to keep them that way.
You can swap out all six high school teams using the custom team builder. Build each one yourself. Pick the colors, name the school, make it whatever you want. If you grew up playing Friday night football in a small town, you can put YOUR school in the game. Your rivals too.
This isn't a workaround. It's a built-in feature. EA put it there on purpose.
How Do You Set Up Custom High School Teams in Road to Glory?
Here's the process:
- Go into the team builder and create your custom high school(s) before you start your RTG file
- Build the school. Set your colors, name, and whatever else the builder lets you customize
- When you start Road to Glory, replace the high school slots with your custom-built teams
- You can do this for all six schools in the conference
You're not limited to one. Build the whole conference if you want.
Can You Commit to a Custom College. Not Just a Real One?
Yes. And this is where it gets interesting.
The team builder isn't just for high schools. You can build a fictional college program too. And then, inside RTG, you can actually commit to that school as your recruit.
So the whole experience, from high school recruitment through college, can run through teams you built yourself. Real schools never have to enter the picture if you don't want them to.
Want to be a five-star recruit from your actual hometown high school who commits to a fictional powerhouse you invented? That's a real save file you can run.
Why Would You Actually Do This?
A few reasons people are setting this up:
- Recreate your actual high school conference. If you played high school ball, or even just grew up watching it, putting those real rivalries into the game hits different.
- Build a full fictional universe. Custom high schools feeding into a custom college. Your whole career, your world.
- Make RTG feel personal. The default experience is fine. A conference built around YOUR schools is better.
This feature would've been the coolest thing imaginable for anyone who grew up playing small-town high school football. Now it exists. Most people don't know it's there.
Common Mistakes When Setting Up Custom Teams in RTG
- Not building the teams before starting the RTG file. Do the team builder work first. Get the schools created, THEN launch your Road to Glory save.
- Only replacing one or two schools. You can do all six. If you're going to build the conference, build the whole thing, otherwise you're playing your custom school against generic placeholders.
- Forgetting you can use a custom college too. Most people use the high school builder and then just pick a real college. You can take it further. Build the college, commit to it, run the whole career in your own world.
When Does This Matter Most?
If you play RTG once, blast through it, and move on. It probably doesn't matter much.
But if RTG is your main mode, if you're running multiple careers, creating storylines, trying to make the experience feel real, this changes everything. The custom team builder makes RTG feel like YOUR game, not just a stock NCAA experience.
It also matters if you're streaming or making content. A custom conference with real local school names is immediately more interesting to anyone who grew up in that area.
What You Can and Can't Control
What the builder lets you set:
- School colors
- Team name
- Full custom build. High school OR college program
The team builder handles the customization side. Road to Glory handles where those teams show up when you actually play.
