Beat Mid Blitz Defense

CFB 26offensepass protectionhot routes

TL;DR

Beat Mid Blitz with base blocking (LB + down on left stick), block your tight end and halfback to counter their seven rushers. Run Gun Wild Trio formation with Sticking Up play from Arkansas State playbook, then convert the streak route to a comeback using Left Trigger for three man-beating routes against Cover Zero.

How to Beat Mid Blitz Defense in College Football 26

Mid Blitz is pure cheese. They get their user in the gap — it's glitchy and annoying as hell. But here's the thing: you can beat this garbage every single time.

The answer? Block Seven.

Yeah, it means swallowing your pride. Yeah, it's not the sexiest solution. But it WORKS. Here's what you do:

  • Base Block — Left bumper + down on left stick
  • Block your tight end
  • Block your halfback

Why block seven people? Look at the line of scrimmage. They have SEVEN guys on the line. Seven potential blitzers. Basic math — you need to block seven people.

When they run this cheese blitz, everybody gets picked up. Your lineman might still get beat — blocking doesn't guarantee perfection. But you won't get a FREE RUSHER destroying your pocket. That's step one to beating this garbage.

What Formation and Play Should You Run?

Formation: Gun Wild Trio
Play: Sticking Up
Playbook: Arkansas State (get this playbook — it's money)

This setup gives you the foundation. But the REAL work happens in your route adjustments.

How to Set Up Man-Beating Routes

Mid Blitz is Cover Zero — man coverage across the board. That means you need routes that beat man coverage.

Look at what Sticking Up gives you out of the box:

  • Post route from left wide receiver — GOOD man beater
  • Return route over the middle — GOOD man beater
  • Streak route — TERRIBLE man beater (any scrub can cover a streak)

Here's your KEY ADJUSTMENT: Select the streak receiver (Y/Triangle button), then press Left Trigger to change it to a comeback route.

Now you have THREE man-beating routes on the field:

  • Comeback route
  • Post route
  • Return route

When Should You Use This Strategy?

Every time you see Mid Blitz. Period.

Don't try to be a hero. Don't think you can outsmart it with some fancy audible or hot route. This defense is designed to be cheesy and create free rushers. Block seven, run man beaters, execute.

Use this when:

  • They show seven guys on the line pre-snap
  • You've seen them user rush before
  • They're in obvious Cover Zero looks

Why This Approach Works

This is scheme over team. Yeah, talent matters. But you're attacking the defense instead of letting the cheese dictate to YOU.

Here's what happens: You show them you can beat Cover Zero consistently. They get frustrated. They switch to zone coverage. BOOM — now you can run the ball, call RPOs, whatever you want.

You're making THEM adjust to YOU. That's how you win games.

How to Execute the Reads

With your three man-beating routes, you have options. Don't panic in the pocket. Your blocking should give you time.

Read the coverage:

  1. Comeback route — usually your quickest option
  2. Post route — great if the safety bites
  3. Return route — reliable underneath option

Take what they give you. Don't force throws into coverage.

What Are Common Mistakes Against Mid Blitz?

Trying to be cute. Don't think you can beat this with some exotic play call or genius audible. Block seven. Run man beaters. Execute.

Not blocking enough. "I'll just get the ball out quick" — NO. Block seven people. Give yourself time to make reads.

Running bad routes. Streaks don't beat man coverage. Comebacks, posts, returns — these beat man coverage.

Panicking in the pocket. Your blocking gives you time. Use it. Make your reads.

What Happens After You Beat It?

Once you show you can beat Cover Zero, they'll switch it up. Usually to zone coverage. That's when the fun starts — now you can attack with runs, RPOs, whatever.

The key is proving you can handle the cheese first. Show them their Mid Blitz garbage doesn't work. Force THEM to adjust.

Bottom line: You should never lose to pure stock Cover Zero blitz. Block seven, base block, run man beaters, execute. It's not sexy, but it wins games.
